Countdown Timer

Pick a date and time, and watch the seconds tick away. Use this to count down to a deadline, a launch, a birthday, a holiday, or any moment that matters. The live display updates every second with days, hours, minutes, and seconds remaining.

Why countdowns help

A visible countdown creates a sense of urgency and anticipation. For deadlines, it replaces the vague feeling of "I still have time" with a concrete number. For events you are looking forward to, it builds excitement and helps with planning.

Countdowns also make large time spans feel manageable. Seeing "47 days" is more tangible than "about six weeks." The specificity itself is motivating.

Common uses

  • Project deadlines. Replace "due in about two weeks" with an exact day and hour count. Specificity makes planning more honest.
  • Launch countdowns. Keep the team focused on a shared target date. A shared countdown removes ambiguity about how much runway remains.
  • Travel preparation. Count down to a flight or departure and use the days remaining to stagger your packing and logistics.
  • Anticipated events. Holidays, concerts, and reunions feel closer when you can see the exact number of days, not just a month name on a calendar.
  • Contract and renewal tracking. Set a countdown to a subscription or contract end date so you are never caught off guard.

FAQ

Is the countdown based on my local time or UTC?

The target date and time you enter are interpreted in your local timezone. If you set a countdown to midnight on December 31, it will reach zero at midnight in whatever timezone your device is set to.

Can I count down to a date years in the future?

Yes. When the countdown spans more than a year, the display shows years and days separately so the number stays readable. Leap years are accounted for.

What happens when the countdown reaches zero?

The display freezes at zero and shows a "Countdown complete" message. You can then start a new countdown or reset and adjust the target time.

Can I save multiple countdowns?

Yes. The main app lets you create and name multiple countdowns at once, all running in parallel with labels to tell them apart.

What is the difference between a countdown and a timer?

A timer counts down from a duration you set (e.g., 25 minutes from now). A countdown targets a fixed calendar date and time, so it stays accurate even if you close and reopen the page.
